From its Durban and Gauteng bases in South Africa, Lakeside Equipment provides tailor-made pumping solutions for the industrial and agricultural industries. They design, manufacture and supply a whole range of pumping systems that are perfectly suited to the needs of their clients. But it doesn’t stop there. They’re also dedicated to ensuring their pumping systems go on working reliably for years to come, through a dedicated team of service engineers.
In their drive to provide clients with the most reliable and cutting edge technology, Lakeside Equipment even designed and manufactured its own rotary pump range, the Magmaflo. Now in existence for over 20 years, the Magmaflo range has developed an enviable reputation for high performance and low maintenance. While South African industries have enjoyed its benefits for decades, it’s now rapidly gaining popularity around the world.
The company has been in business for over 30 years so many quality management systems were already in place. However, Megan Pennefather, Operations Coordinator, said that quite a lot of their original systems and processes were carried out verbally rather than being documented, so they knew there was a need to formalize everything.
She also says that as the company developed its export market, clients both home and abroad were increasingly asking if they had ISO 9001, so it felt like achieving certification was a necessary step to take. A member of the IMSM team had been visiting for a number of years, so when the decision was taken to go for ISO, Megan knew exactly who to call.
Megan explained that as Lakeside Equipment are a fairly small company, the process to gain ISO 9001 certification was quick, simple and only took them a couple of months to achieve. She said, ‘although it was a lot of work to put the new systems in place, we were given step by step help and plenty of support from our IMSM Consultant, making it all really straightforward. He confirmed the start of the process in his first visit at the beginning of March and we had gained certification by the end of April’.
Megan believes it will make a big difference to the company and added,
‘we’ve only had our ISO 9001 for a couple of months but we know it will be of great benefit to us in the future. It was nice to be able to let all our clients know we’d achieved ISO 9001 and send them a copy of our certificate – especially the ones that had requested it. It means that our existing clients know we have all the correct quality management systems in place and new ones will be happier to work with us. After all, a happy client is a happy company’.
