To ensure man and machine work in perfect harmony, they also offer industry leading training, from operator training and load testing to battery bay management and the STEP programme. In fact they’re the only TETA accredited training provider in the Western Cape. With branches in Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg, the decision to embark on ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification evolved from the need to create greater consistency throughout the business. Elize Koster, Regional SHEQ Officer and ISO Coordinator, told us, ‘ISO 9001 is the ultimate global benchmark for quality management. It is a critical tool for boosting our company’s success, profitability and market potential. ISO 9001 will better equip the business to meet every client requirement and improve client focus throughout.’ She believes it will also help them improve competitiveness, open up their business to larger clients, in addition to improving employee motivation, time management, service and performance. Durban was the pilot branch and started the initial phases of planning and implementation at the end of 2011. Elize says the help and when the decision was taken to go for ISO, Megan knew exactly who to call. Megan explained that as Lakeside Equipment are a fairly small company, the process to gain ISO 9001 certification was quick, simple and only took them a couple of months to achieve. She said, ‘although it was a lot of work to put the new systems in place, we were given step by step help and plenty of support from our IMSM Consultant, making it all really straightforward. He confirmed the start of the process in his first visit at the beginning of March and we had gained certification by the end of April’. Megan believes it will make a big difference to the company and added, ‘we’ve only had our ISO 9001 for a couple of months but we know it will be of great benefit to us in the future. It was nice to be able to let all our clients know we’d achieved ISO 9001 and send them a copy of our certificate – especially the ones that had requested it. It means that our existing clients know we have all the correct quality management systems in place and new ones will be happier to work with us. After all, a happy client is a happy company’. If you think your company would benefit from achieving ISO certification, talk to us and we’ll be happy to help you.
